Email’s Looking Fine in 2009. Four Keys to Running an Effective Campaign.

You smell that? That my friends is the smell of change and whether you cringe or embracing it with open arms, it is upon us. Traditional forms of advertising such as direct mail, print and magazine continue to decrease in value while marketing channels such as email and search are ranking one and two respectively as top performers. Email marketing will be the primary marketing medium of 2009 and I have compiled a list of four key components to a successful, healthy campaign.

Trust is a Must Viewing email as a relationship and building trust is a big factor in a campaign. You have no doubt been hearing a lot about social networking, web 2.0 and the season premier of American Idol as of late and the big reason to their success is the relationship buidling. Facebook, Twitter and some Idol wannabe’s are so successful because friends and fans are able to get the inside scoop to the personal lives of an individual or company. The same can be said for the email campaign you are running. Don’t simply use email as way to sell sell sell (although yes this ultimately is the goal). Through your emails, let your customers get to know the personality of your company. In addition to those great specials and packages you’re promoting, tell them about the office chair relay race that went on last week. Giving a personality and face to your emails can do wonders....

You've Heard Of Clickbank Right?

I'm about to drop a bombshell that's going to change the affiliate marketing world forever.

You're about to learn how one guy entered Clickbank as a total newbie and earned $11,516.45 in his first week.

..and went on to make over $48k in my first month as a Clickbank affiliate.

And that's with no list, no JV partners, and starting new sites from scratch using free web templates.

Robot For Your Blog

Robot is one of the most important factors regarding SEO because it instructs search engine to take care of your site either. Robot is nothing but a text file, where some special instructions are hard coded by the user or admin of the particular site. This file is made in notepad and uploaded in the root folder of the server.

How To Find The Right Keywords

I have seen it is very difficult for freshers to learn about SEO. The
major problem that they face is information overload and being new to this trade most
freshers are unable to distinguish between ethical and proper SEO methods and stinky spam
techniques. Unfortunately, though the internet is overloaded with SEO information, site's
providing information on how to spam search engines are more easily available than the ones
that teach about proper SEO methods. From this line of thought I have made up my mind to put up short write ups on this blog about different aspects of Search engine optimization, in
plain and simple language that can be understood by newbies - yes, the very basics only and
if you can grasp this, you can definitely climb your way up the ladder.

One of the first thing that people should learn while considering SEO is how to find the
right keywords.

There are ample tools available on the web that help SEOs with keyword research, however, it
is often noticed that people fail to identify the proper keywords. The most common mistakes
that people do is that they target the keywords that show maximum number of hits. But that is
not the only thing a SEO should look at while search for target keywords.

There are two main factors that any SEO should consider while choosing his keywords for
optimization of any website.a) The number of hits for that keywordb) The competition on that keywordc) Most importantly, how closely is that keyword related to his site and what is the
possibility of conversion.

Generally, the keywords with maximum hits will have maximum competition, however,if you can dig deep into the keywords and analyze your website properly, you are sure to find keywords that are very specific to your niche. These keywords have manyfold advantages :a) As they are specific to your niche, the chance of conversion is very highb) These keywords generally have a lower competition, with not so low number of hits. As a result these keywords are easy to optimize for and get results and also once you have optimised a website for such keywords the conversion rate for your site is also most likely to increase.

For example, if you are a Tourist Guide in Kolkata it wont be of any help to you to optimize for a keyword like "Tourist Guide" - of course this keyword is going to have much more hits compared to niche keywords like "Tourist Guide in Kolkata" - however, people searching for "Tourist guides in Kolkata" are more likely to be interested in your service than someone searching for "Tourist Guide". So it is definitely beneficial for you to optimize for "tourist guide in Kolkata".

The objective of a SEO keyword research should be to find keywords for which the competition is low but number of hits is high. To judge these two parameters for different keywords on a even platform SEOs use a Formula called KEI or Keyword Effectiveness Index. To put in very simple word this is a ratio that identified the most effective keywords.Originally invented by Sumantra Roy - this formula has been modified by various SEOs at times.

The higher the KEI for a keyword, the better it is.

The KEI formula can be represented as given below:
KEI=p^2/C

where,
P = popularity of the keyword
C = Competition for that keyword.

This formula is based on three axioms.

a) If the popularity of a keyword (p) increases the KEI should increase. If value of p increases, p^2/C will definitely increase.

b) if the competition for the keyword (C) increases the KEI should decrease . If value of C increases, p^2/C decreases.

c) If both popularity and competition of a keyword increases the KEI should increase. If both the value increases, the value of p^2/C is sure to increase. If P and C increases such that P/C is same as before p^2/C = p/C*p is sure to increase.

In his original formula he has defined competition as the number of sites that Altavista displays for a keyword when you search for a keyword using a Exact match search (keyword within "") and populrity as the figure displayed in the "Count" column of Wordtracker for that keyword.

However, in my opinion, it is better to take the competition figure from Google because in most cases they display the maximum number of results for any keywords and the popularity figure from Overture (http://inventory.overture.com/ ) because Overture network receives much more hits/month compared to the meta Crawler/Infospace database used by wordtracker.
KEI is definitely a good way to start your keyword research but it is most oimportant that your keywords are absolutely related to your niche.

I hope this helps you to understand the basics of Keyword Research, in case you have any questions please feel free to shoot a mail, I will love to be of any help to you.

Facebook Launches Vanity URL

Facebook finally launched a feature that was long overdue from a popular social networking site of its stature. After a dramatic 3 day countdown yesterday midnight they have launched the vanity URLs for its users. Now instead of a random number at the end of your Facebook profile URL you can actually have your name( if you are lucky) or some meaningful word of your choice.

I think I am a bit late on this post ( am a real lazy a** these days) because the rush is full on and if you have not secured your personalized Facebook URL, log on to your Facebook account right away and you will see a notification of the vanity URL on top of your profile page. Just follow the instructions and you should be done in a jiffy.

However, as per Facebook blog for recent Facebook users who have signed up for an account after May 31st this feature would not be available for now. This has been set up to prevent name squatting on Facebook and I think its a very wise decision that the Facebook guys have taken.
If you signed up for a Facebook Page after May 31 or a user profile after today at 3 p.m. EDT, you may not be able to sign up for a user name immediately because of steps we've taken to prevent abuse or "squatting" on names.
Now with this personalized Facebook URL, it would probably be a better tool to use for online search reputation management, and would probably be much more effective if Facebook allows for a little more information on profile pages for users without log ins ( Google bot don't have a Facebook ID

Effective Search Engine Optimization

Any successful SEO implementation should include the following:

1. Extensive Keyword Research - Research specific keywords or keyword phrases that will most likely bring the most relevant/targeted traffic to your website. Compile a list of relevant keywords/keyword phrases to optimize for on your home page, landing page, and any other pages of your website. Never try to shoot for very general keywords such as "jewelry" or "furniture". Rather, shoot for more targeted keyword phrases such as "M2 design bracelets" or "swivel recliner".

2. Site Design Geared Towards Targeted Audience - Design your site content and navigation according to your keyword research and for your target market/audience. Never design your site just for the search engines, rather design your site for your "live" audience (visitors). When it makes sense to do so, plug your keywords into your navigation or web content. Your keyword research will reveal what people are searching for in various ways. Make sure your sites navigation and content showcase the various ways in which people are searching for what you have to offer. Make sure you also include your keywords/keyword phrases in the title/meta/keyword/ALT/Heading tags.

3. Website That Is "Spider/Crawling" Search Engine Friendly. - Use a Free HTML Validator to ensure your site is browser friendly and has no broken links. Having links that don't work will greater reduce your credibility with any potential prospects that tour your site. Make sure your site is more rich in content and less in fancy flash animations/javascript and images. Its not that these don't serve a purpose or should never be used its just that search engines cannot interpret Flash and graphics. Having a large number of images can also slow down how fast your site loads. Use the Website Speed Test to see how fast your site pages load. Its also a good idea to use HTML links in the top-level main navigation on each of the pages of your site.

4. Descriptive Anchor Text (visible text within a clickable text link) For All The Internal Links Of Your Site - Good descriptive navigational links will help your visitors find their way around your site and find what their looking for. Make it as easy as possible for your visitors to find their way around and use "call to action" links/buttons to get your visitors do what you want them to do once they find what their looking for. Do this and you will see a vast increase in conversions/sales and a greater ROI (return on investment) for your business.

5. Site That Is "Link-Worthy" - Having other sites link to yours is a vital element of any successful search engine optimization, as all of the major search engines place a good deal of emphasis on your sites overall link popularity.

Finally, is your site full of great content and information about your products/services? Does it clearly state the benefits and how it solves your target market/audience problem or problems? Is it a great resource for others? As a visitor can I easily find my way around your site? Does it capture my attention enough to keep me on the site or will I get bored and leave right away? Will other website owners be inclined to link to your site? These are the type of questions that you must answer in order to have a site that others will want to link to.

Any good web analytics tool will measure these results and give you a good indication of how your site measures up to desired results. If you hire an SEO consultant or SEO firm make sure they set you up with one. Eliminate the guesswork as much as possible and make decisions based on monitored website behavior.

(SEO) terms

Unethical SEO
Unethical search engine optimization techniques that are considered unscrupulous and can result in getting sites banned from the search engines. Examples of this include Keyword stuffing, where the site consists of a long list of keywords. Hidden text is when the text on the page is the same color as the background and often consists of lists of keywords that are put there in hope of tricking search engine spiders. Doorway pages that are designed for search engines and spiders in an attempt to trick them into indexing the web site into a higher position.

Unique visitors
Unique visitors are a count of individual users who have accessed your web site. It should be noted that the "user session" metric does not yield an accurate unique visitor count, as multiple user sessions can be generated by one unique visitor.

Universe
The term "universe" in the world of advertising means the total population of the target audience.

URL
used interchangeably with web address. Acronym stands for Uniform Resource Locator. URLs can specify the location of a web page, an email address, or a file on an FTP server, among other things.

URL Rewrite
A technique used to help make web site URLs more user and search engine friendly.

Usability
How user friendly a web site is. The ease of use that a user can perform an action or task through the user interface.

Usenet
Bulletin board network featuring thousands of newsgroups.

User agent
The name of the browser/spider that is currently visiting a page. For example, "Googlebot/2.1 (+http://www.google.com/bot.html)"

User Generated Content
User-generated-content (USG) is content created and published by the end-users online. USG is comprised of videos, podcasts and posts on discussion groups, blogs, wiki's and social media sites. USG allows for a wider content provider base and the chance for all users to share their opinions online. Criticism of USG includes credibility and quality issues.

Submitted by Annemarie Hunter - Netconcepts

User session
an instance of an Internet user accessing your web site for a length of time, then leaving. During a user session any number of pages may be accessed. A user session is considered finished once an arbitrarily chosen period of inactivity - typically 30 minutes - is exceeded.

search engine optimization (SEO) terms

Findability
How easily found your site is using search engines.

Firefox
See Mozilla Firefox

Flash
a technology developed by MacroMedia Corp. that allows a web designer to embed interactive multimedia into web pages. Often used for Flash intros, games, and animating navigation. If you visit a web page and see letters and numbers flying around with a fun

Flash intro
an animated 'short' created using Flash that Internet users are made to sit through upon entry to a home page. Flash intros annoy users. They also typically take the place of text content on a home page, and since search engines can't 'read' content embedded in Flash, the rankings of a home page that's just a Flash intro will suffer.

Floating Ads
An ad that appears within the main browser window on top of the page's normal content, appearing to "float" over the top of the page.

Flux
Shuffling of search engine positions in between major search engine updates

Forums
A virtual community. Also known as discussion forums. Used by search engine optimizers and webmasters for information exchange. Users can post messages in different forums, either to the group at large or to certain users. However, all postings can be seen by anyone else who has access to that forum, so save sensitive materials for private email. Forums are also threaded, which means a reply to a particular posting becomes part of the "thread" of that posting that can be followed to provide a cohesive progression through a particular topic.

Frames
when separate web pages are combined into one, each potentially with its own scrollbar. You know you're on a framed website when part of the page scrolls while the rest of the page stays in place. Frames frustrate people because much of the time when the person tries to bookmark a specific page, it doesn't actually work but instead bookmarks the "frameset" page which is typically the home page. Search engines don't like frames. A framed web site is at a severe disadvantage compared to non-framed sites in terms of search engine marketing. Most search engines support frames, but only, as Google says in its FAQ section, "to the extent that [we] can." Searchers clicking through to a framed page from search results sometimes end up on an orphaned page. You can use in HTML to make the page indexed normally by the crawler.<br /><br />Frameset<br /> A web page that is made up of frames. A useful analogy: if the individual frames that make up the frameset are the 'children,' then the frameset is the 'parent.'<br /><br />Frequency<br /> The number of times an ad is delivered to the same browser in a single sessions or time period. <br /><br />Fresh<br /> The term that Google uses to refer to frequently changing home pages. When Googlebot ascertains that a given home page is changing frequently, Googlebot will revisit and reindex this page daily.<br /><br /><br /></div>

Google adsense tips and tricks

  1. Blend your ads to your website layout
This could be considered as one the most important things which is often overlooked. Instead of using predefined colors provided by Google, try changing colors of your ads to match the website layout. For example, if your website uses white background with green text, make sure you use the same colors for your ads.
  2. Do not display a border
While you can’t get rid of the border around your ad, you can make it invisible by changing the border color to that of the background. Researches have shown that ads without a visible border generate much higher clicks than those with one.
  3. Do not place your ads in normal spots
Internet users have become accustomed to the normal ad spots (eg: a Leaderboard above your header, a Skyscrapper outside the content) and hence, any ads placed in those normal spots will often be ignored.
  4. Choose the right ad formats
There are a few ad formats which perform better than others. Some of the recommended ad formats are Wide Skyscrapper, Medium Rectangle and Horizontal Ads Links. However, these ad formats may not necessarily work for everyone, so choose the ones that work for you.
  5. Good layout design
Although a good layout design does not necessarily increase your Adsense revenue, it is important for the first impression and also for the professionalism.
  6. Content is the king
The fact that Google Adsense is contextual advertising implies that the ads being generated are often relevant to the website content. That simply means you will not get any relevant ads if the content does not focus on a certain topic or the content is not text based. For example, if your page does not have any copy/text but an image, it’s unlikely to get relevant ads.
  7. Pick a high paying topic
It took me a while to find out that some keywords are being paid more than others. While Google does not tell you how much advertisers are paying for their keywords, it is pretty easy to guess. For example, ads about credit cards, home loans and insurance are being paid more than those ads about free blogging tool, yellow pages, etc. It is also recommended to pick a Niche topic and provide a narrow focus than to pick a general topic.
  8. Update your website frequently
Updating your website frequently enables you to get more visitors checking out your website which increases your page impression and the probability of ad clicks.
  9. Write quality content
Not everyone possesses a natural talent in writing, and I can say for sure that I don’t. However, if you offer something useful, interesting, and put your heart into writing, your readers will enjoy what you have to say. And they will be coming back for more.
  10. A good organizer is the winner
With Google Adsense, you can organize your ads and have a clear idea about their performance by using Channels. This way, if a particular ad is not performing well, you could always replace it with a difference one. There are quite a few things you could do with Channels and this is just one of them.
  11. Monitor your statistics
Checking both your website and Adsense statistics enables you to get better ideas about your audiences. From your website statistics, you can find out which pages are being viewed the most, where most of your traffics come from, what the peak day of the week is, etc. Similarly, Adsense statistics will tell you which ad formats are being clicked the most, how many page impressions you receive, how much you are making each day/week/month, etc. You can then make improvements based on these figures to maximize the performance.
  12. Link Building
No matter how good your website is and how relevant your Adsense ads are, without a decent amount of traffics, you will only be making a small amount of revenue, if any. It is not easy to achieve a decent amount of traffics, but it is not impossible. Some of the most common ways to gain traffics to your website include Link exchange, Directory listing, participating in online communities and making use of social bookmaking systems.
  13. Search Engine Optimization
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is one of the most successful and recommended methods of gaining traffics to your website and it is more than just a buzz word. Optimizing your websites for search engines increases your website visibility and ranking, which in turn generates significant amounts of targeted and relevant traffics to your website. Combined, search sites reach more than 130 million Americans or approximately 85 percent of all Internet users each month, ranking Search/Navigation among the most popular categories on the Web.
  14. A little maintenance goes a long way
Many people tend to overlook the maintenance part of the website. In this case, rather than sticking to the same ad formats, or the same positioning of the ads, try experiment with different formats and positioning. If they do not work, you could always revert the changes. But if they do, that’s a bonus for you.
  15. Do not click on your own ads
Honesty is the best policy. Be honest with yourself, and do not try to increase your Adsense revenue by clicking on your own ads. Google is really strict when it comes to fraud clicking, and before you knew it, your account could be banned and you could be owing some money to the advertisers.
  16. When in doubt, ask
If you have some questions in mind, or are unclear about certain stuffs, don’t hesitate to ask the Google Adsense Help Team. Before asking them, though, you could do them a favor by checking out their Frequently Asked Questions and Answers page.

I hope you will find the above tips and tricks useful in improving your website to increase your Adsense revenue. While it is always good to earn some cash from your website, do not let it rule you or your website. And remember that no money is easy money and it takes a considerable amount of time, effort and dedication before one could see a marked improvement in his Adsense revenue.

15 Tips for Building a Super Selling Website

Today there are literally thousands of Websites on the World Wide Web. Unfortunately, only a few generate the capital or clientele they desire. Many websites do not appeal nor grab visitor's attention. Also, many display poor depictions of products and/or advertise low quality merchandise. There are several other factors but, if you can't catch your visitor's attention immediately you will never reach your ultimate goal which is making tons of cash. I come across many websites daily and only a few have what it takes to call itself a true winner. Here are the most important 15 tips for building a website that sell:

  1. Homepage Content
You never get a second chance to make a first impression. Your homepage must be well organized, not cluttered, ease to follow and consumers understand immediately what you sell. An interchangeable homepage is even better because you can change it to depict yearly events such as holidays and/or seasonal occasions. Homepages that feature sales, promotions or product(s) do extremely well. Color and content go hand and hand. Colors have a strong psychological impact on your visitors. Combinations of Red, Black and white are used with many big companies. However, leave as much white space as possible. Also blue and white with red accent works just fine too. Never sell anything that offends or makes consumers uncomfortable. Keep good clean moral content on your website, your business will prosper.
  2. Create a slogan
Something quick, short and simple that becomes synonymous with your business. When visitors click on your website they know what you do right away and your slogan is your promise.
  3. Ease of navigation
Always place navigation links to your products on the left side of the homepage in alphabetical order.
  4. Quality of products
Sell products that consumers want! Sell quality products! Ask yourself would I purchase what I'm selling? If you settle for anything less you'll be out of business before you get started. Make certain the picture quality is top notch.
  5. Affiliate Program
Make sure your site can accept affiliates. This is where a person or website refers a potential new buyer to a seller's site and vice versa. Cost per sale is the biggest moneymaker for affiliates.
  6. Consumer Promotions
Offer diverse promotion(s) such as 10 to 20% off select products or free shipping to draw customers in. Feature item(s) on your homepage so customers won't have to search for promotions, specials or featured items.
  7. Consumer Savings
Make sure your website has the versatility to cut or reduce prices. Show your consumers what the original price was, along with the new one. Basically, show the amount of money your consumer is saving.
  8. Variety of products
Sell a variety of products which appeals to all demographics. Your online business is viral and will expand across the country in no time with the right product(s).
  9. Fast page load
Animation, doorway pages, music, videos and page transitions are simply not needed. Flash technology slows down image and page loads further distracting your visitors from the main point at hand. Visitors will only spend a few seconds waiting for a site to load. Keep it simple easy to follow and plenty of white space.
  10. e-Catalogs
Incorporate your e-catalog in your navigation bar as a hyperlink. Visitors can browse your e-catalog(s) right on your site with out surfing your e-store.
  11. Contact Information
Make certain all information (addresses and phone numbers) is visible and correct. A business cell phone would pay big dividends because you are able to answer question about products or problems. Many consumers prefer to speak with a live person it builds rapport and confidence.
  12. Free Registration
Always let your customers browse your e-store for free. The only time they should have to register "for free" is when it is time to purchase.
  13. About Us
Make visitors feel at home when they enter you website by writing a 20-40 word blurb about you and your business on the homepage. It can be as simple as how you got started or how you love what you do.
  14. Payment System
Make sure you have a shopping cart and merchant account which allows customers to use their credit cards right on your site. Have it integrated with Pay-Pal at a minimum. Verify the system automatically sends confirmation emails after completion of purchase. Also, integrate a consumer feedback section so consumers can generate feedback at their leisure.
  15. Newsletters
Always keep track of your customers email information and electronically send them monthly sales updates, product promotions, new products information etc. Your business passive income will grow constantly.

How to Not Get Banned for Adsense Arbitrage

Would you believe a rumour that tells you that Google is going to ban the publishers that practice Adsense Arbitrage? Well, then I suppose you don't agree with me that Google would commit suicide. After all, the Adword/Adsense system that Google uses is arbitrage.

What Google wants to get rid of are the sites that convert poor for the advertisers. Imagen yourself paying dollars per click to get visitors to your site and you see your ad on one of those crappy "Made For Adsense" websites. Chances are that you want to take your ads of those sites right away. There's no quality content on those sites that gives the searcher the information he or she is looking for.

Google is going after publishers that return bad ROI for the advertiser. Google has never said that they are going after Adsense Arbitrage publishers.

Suppose you use an Adwords campaign to send traffic to your website With Adsense ads. If that website has quality content on it and is relevant to what the searcher has typed in the search bar, then you are doing exactly what Google wants you to do. Give relevant quality information to the searcher. You are NOT violating Google's TOS.

The Quality Score of your Adwords campaign will improve and as a result you will pay less CPC (Cost per Click) and your ad will be displayed higher in the Sponsored Links.

What would be the result if you optimize your website to a quality website? Besides the traffic you get from your advertising campaign, Google will love to index a website like that. They need quality information for the searchers.

Affiliate marketers using PPC advertising are practicing arbitrage, because they often invest few cents to earn dollar commissions. Of course, in this case the amount of CPC that they pay depends on what niche they advertise in. And very often the searcher ends up on a landing page with a product review. If that review is relevant to what the searcher searches for, the advertiser and affiliate is doing exactly what Google wants. Again, this will increase the quality score of the Adwords campaign.

Conclusion

Adsense Arbitrage is not a "bad" thing that will get you banned from Google Adsense. On the other hand, building crappy websites, such as the MFA (Made For Adsense sites), and sending traffic from a Google Adwords account to those sites is not recommended anymore. A logical thought is that Google will never index those sites and will let the advertiser pay high CPC in case of arbitrage. Will this cost you your Adsense account? That's up to Google to decide.
